Special thanks to everyone at Spirit in the Sky, Drapanos for hosting this event and to Paul the compere, the judges and Ged and Julie’s good friends Clare and Ray for organising the event…..and to everyone who went along and made this a very special night .
The atmosphere was a fantastic - the place was packed and everyone enjoyed a fun filled night – there were some brilliant singers and entertainers. The night raised 850 euros from entry fees, a raffle and donations.
Our special guests at Sara`s Retreat, Brandon and his family attended the event and had a great time – Ebony, Natalie and Julie did the charity proud singing Mama Mia.
The family were very lucky in the raffle winning lots of prizes, including a surround sound home cinema kit which Brandon’s Mum, Natalie very kindly donated to the charity.
Special thanks to Alan Gray (in the UK) for donating the X Factor crystal trophy and
to all the local businesses for donating prizes for the raffle.

Brandon Cairns is 7, he was diagnosed with lymphoma at the age of 6. He has had to undergo intense doses of chemotherapy but has been very brave throughout his treatment.
Brandon is in remission now but has had a tough time, missing school, friends and family due to long hospital stays. Tragically Brandon’s daddy died on 1st May this year and it’s been a tough few months for all the family, they really deserve some quality time together. Mum Natalie, grandmother Margaret, brother Ryan (11) and sister Ebony (5) are really looking forward to a break at Sara’s Retreat.

Brian Lockey (Joel’s dad – 3rd family to visit Sara’s Retreat) in this photo.
Brian’s Lady Godiva fund raiser for Saras Hope Foundation at the weekend was a great success. Unfortunately dogs barking spooked the normally bullet-proof horse, it bolted and threw Brian !………now don’t laugh !…… he was winded! Good on Brian for giving it a go to help raise money to fund the flights for families visiting Sara’s Retreat, what a star.

Erin Askew is 10, she was just 5 when diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. She had 2+ years of chemotherapy, steroids and numerous lumbar punctures. She was in a wheelchair due to the pain caused by this weekly treatment. She has been off treatment for 2 years & 9 months and is slowly regaining her confidence back.
Mum Mary, Dad Shaun and sister Megan (7) are looking forward to having some family time together. A huge thank you to all our supporters for raising money to help us to send children living with cancer on a family holiday break.

In May 2011 Grainger Games Ltd held their annual Charity Football Challenge Cup, raising
funds for Saras Hope Foundation. Grainger Games Chairman (Jonathan Fellows) entered his
select eleven team of over Forties ‘The Fat Boys’ against a Grainger Games team, selected by the Managing Director (Stephen Bowyer); playing for the Grainger Games Challenge Cup.
The Chairman’s ‘Fat Boys’ took advantage of their ‘head start’ and with an 8 goal advantage, won the game 9-4! . Next year’s rematch will not have such a generous head start.
The Chairman was delighted to raise funds for Saras Hope Foundation and a cheque for £650 was presented.
Saras Hope Foundation wish to thank Grainger Games for this very generous donation, monies raised will help to provide holiday breaks for children living with cancer, allowing them a break from long hospital stays, traumatic medical procedures and cancer related treatments, giving them Smiles, Hopes and Precious Memories.

Members of The Rotary Club of Monkseaton Centenary visited The Rotary Club of Penrith earlier this week to meet Laura and Anne (the first visitors to Sara’s Retreat). The photo above shows the two Rotary Presidents with the ladies.
Monkseaton members enjoyed the ladies’ company very much indeed and all the 43 Rotarians in attendance were extremely impressed by Anne’s moving report on their time in Crete. She
stressed the huge geographical area that the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle covers – particularly including Cumbria.
We would like to thank Laura and Anne for taking the time to visit the Rotary Club of Penrith and for raising the awareness of Saras Hope Foundation in Cumbria.
